Akpabio’s senate president bid criminalisation of politics – LP’s Osuntokun

Akin Osuntokun, a senior member of the opposition Labour Party, has said that the bid by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to make Godswill Akpabio the next senate president is a criminalisation of politics.

TheCornet had reported that the ruling party seemed to have settled for Akpabio and senator Jubrin Barau as senate president and deputy senate president respectively.

But while giving his assessment of the situation, Osuntokun stated that Akpabio became a senator through an “unprecedented” Supreme Court judgment.

“We are going to have a senate president … who became senator by an unprecedented judgment of the Supreme Court? He was contesting for presidency and senate at the same time. After scaling that, now they are bringing it to rub it in our faces,” Osuntokun stated

Osuntokun, who was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and, later, the Zenith Party, joined the LP as the director-general of the Peter Obi’s presidential campaign.
