Emefiele deliberately pitting poor Nigerians against Buhari – Oshiomhole

A former governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole, has faulted the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele, for putting Nigerians in hardship with the controversial naira redesign policy.

He said this when he featured as a guest on a television programme monitored by TheCornet.

Oshiomhole alleged that Emefiele could have a sinister motive with the policy, given that his attempt to secure the party’s presidential ticket abruptly failed.

Due to his failure, Oshiomhole said he believes “Emefiele could have chosen a policy that will discredit the party”.

He added, “And unfortunately, everybody knows that President Buhari’s constituency in Nigeria is the army of the poor.

“The elite have never supported him. And it is these poor people who are hit the most by this policy.”

Oshiomhole stated that the naira redesign policy “is ill-conceived, not well-thought-out and poorly timed.”

The former APC chairman equally expressed the view that the policy had pitted President Muhammadu Buhari against poor Nigerians, who supported him to get to his position.

“The elite have never supported him. And it is these poor people who are hit the most by this policy.

“You can see that the tension in the bank is not to eliminate abuses, but to prevent the election from taking place.

“The policy will hurt the election process as the INEC will have to revise its budget as the allocated funds to buy PMS and to bring election materials cannot meet that need now.

“It is in that context that whoever scuttles the election would have scuttled the chances of the APC winning the election, ” Oshiomhole stated.
