After 5 years in jail, Lagos man returns to armed robbery

Taiwo Sunmonu, an ex-convict, has been arrested for armed robbery by the police in Lagos. Sunmonu had served five years jail term at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, before his release in November 2020.

In the latest incident, Sunmonu was arrested during an operation along with members of his gang in Ijaniki area of the state.

“The suspect was arrested by police operatives attached to the Ijanikin Division while responding to a distress call, as the suspect and his gang members were robbing unsuspecting Lagosians on Ajayi Street, Oto Awori, Ijanikin. But other members of the gang escaped,” said Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command.

Adejobi said the suspect confessed to the crime and others he had took part in. He added that one locally-made pistol and live ammunition were recovered from him.
