Lai Mohammed faults ‘EndSARS’ panel report

Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s Minister of Information, has faulted the report of the Lagos State Panel On Restitution For Victims Of Police Brutality, SARS Abuse And Other Matters.

Speaking during a press conference, held in Abuja, Mohammed said “Without mincing words, never in the history of any judicial panel in Nigeria has a report been so riddled with discrepancies and conclusions that are not backed up [with facts],” he said.

“It was a phantom massacre. The report in circulation cannot be relied upon. The leakage of an unsigned report to the public is not enough.

“There is absolutely nothing in the report, circulating, to change our mind that there was a massacre at the Lekki tollgate.”

The 9-man panel, led by Justice Doris Okuwobi (retd.) submitted its report to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. A leaked report claims that the panel discovered that nine protesters were killed and several others injured at the Admiralty Toll Plaza, Lekki, on October 20, 2020.

The Nigerian Army witness, General Ibrahim Taiwo had told the panel that Governor Sanwo-Olu invited the military on the day of the shooting.
