65-year-old man, nursing mother, 4 children rescued after Edo train kidnapping

Six people among the 31 persons kidnapped at a train station in Edo State last Saturday have regained their freedom. They comprise a 65-year-old man, a nursing mother and her baby, a six-year-old girl and two siblings; aged two and five years old.

Chris Nehikhare, the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, revealed this on Monday.

He also said authorities are working to free the remaining 26 victims from their captors. He also said that two suspected kidnappers, though not connected to the latest incident, were arrested.

Also in Igueben, where the train abduction occurred, some gunmen have abducted a magistrate, Precious Aigbonoga.

Festus Usiobaifo, the publicity secretary of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), said Aigbonoga, who is the President of Igueben Area Customary Court, was kidnapped on Monday morning around Ugoneki axis on her way to court in Igueben Local Government Area, Edo State.

“The executive of NBA is in close touch with the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara. By the grace of God Almighty, His Honour shall be rescued unhurt, and the bandits brought to book, Amen. Let us keep His Honour in our prayers, please,” the statement added.
