ASUU finally suspends strike
The Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its eight months old strike conditionally.
The union took the decision early Friday morning, after a meeting of its national executive committee meeting, which began Thursday.
TheCornet reports that the National Industrial Court of Nigeria and, subsequently, the Court of Appeal had ordered that the lecturers’union to call of its strike.
A reconciliatory meeting between ASUU executives and the leadership of the House of Representatives took place.
Following the meeting, ASUU’s president Emmanuel Osodeke told journalists they had met a breakthrough. The speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila echoed Osodeke’s optimism of a final resolution of the industrial dispute. He said President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to make some concessions to the lecturers, while the latter would do same too.
