22-year-old woman human traffic plot to Libya foiled, suspect arrested

A married suspect, Olusola Areke, has been arrested for her involvement in human trafficking. The Nigerian Army (81 Division), in a statement, arrested the suspect based on intelligence received from a victim’s mother.

One Mrs. Ainor Kunle reportedly entrusted the custody of her 22-year-old daughter, Fayoke Kunle, into Areke’s hands. Areke had promised to secure a job for the victim at Oshodi area of the Lagos metropolis.

But she, instead, took the victim, Fayoke, to Kano for onward trafficking to Libya. Fayoke allegedly got wind of the plan and fled to her mother in Lagos.

Army officials, in a decoy operation, telephoned Areke to facilitate the trafficking of fake victims.

She was “arrested at the designated meeting point, where she intended to pick up her supposed other victims,” the statement said.

“Both the suspect and the victim have been handed over to the Ajah Police Command in Lagos for further investigation.

“The Division wishes to urge members of the public to continue to support the NA in providing timely information to aid in maintaining law and order.
