Why INEC should disqualify Bauchi gov. – PRP

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi state, from seeking re-election.

Ahmed Umar Farouk, the governorship candidate of the opposition party, filed the suit against Mohammed; Sadique Abubakar, a former chief of air staff; and Senator Haliru Jika sought multiple nominations.

Farouk accused Mohammed of participating as an aspirant in the presidential primary of the PDP, only for him to later seek nomination as a governorship candidate of the same party.

He said the act violates Section 177(c) of the Constitution as well as sections 84(13) and 115(d) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The opposition candidate, therefore, wants the court to restrain INEC from recognising Mohammed as a candidate in the next general elections.

The PRP candidate also wants the court to disqualify Abubakar and Musa as the governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next governorship election.
