Boko haram storms prison holding Abba Kyari, frees prisoners

Jihadists group, Boko Haram has stormed the Kuje Correctional facility where rogue police officer Abba Kyari and other high profile prisoners are being kept. The terrorists reportedly freed hardened criminals but sources said Kyari and other white-collar prisoners are still in the facility.

The terrorists seized control of the prison, located at the outskirt of Nigeria’s federal capital territory, Abuja, at about 10:00 p.m. They are said to have bombed the facilities, before shooting their way through.

“Suspected Boko Haram attackers have just seized the prisons from our control,” an official said to Peoples Gazette. “They have destroyed the prison and we don’t know what they plan to do next,” said an alleged government official.

“All major, biggest terrorists, armed robbers and kidnappers have escaped,” he added.

Soldiers and other security personnel guarding the facility were unable to repel the attack as many were said to have immediately fled the scene when the attackers arrived on “over 1,000 motorcycles”, according a report by Peoples Gazette.

The attack comes a day after gunmen shot at a presidential convoy that was to receive President Muhammadu Buhari at his home state of Daura, Katsina state.
